Sara Hess has a blog about her up-coming trip to Nicaragua. Take a look and support Sara a young Missions Mind youth from our Church. If you have a blog let me know I would be glad to post your link on this site.

May 27th Mid Week Bible Study

I thought the Mid-Week service was very good. Great comments and thoughts followed the lesson. My hope is that we will continue to put in practice what God has put in our hearts to accomplish. This Sunday's sermon will continue to address the subject of Joy with an emphasis of practice ways to overcome depression. This is a major issue in our world today and something people are willing to seek out an answer for. Invite someone you know. Try and fill this church not so we can glory in our attendance, rather let us make the effort for the struggling hurting people that hope would help!

First Generation Church Concepts

First Generation Church Concepts vs. Fourth – Fifth Generation Concept. Or Apostolic vs. Denominational churches.

For this paper the word Apostolic refers to any Christian movement in its first generation. And Denominational refers to movements are established “mentally” in their fourth or later stage. More importantly then the “times and season” of the Church these terms refer to the attitude and approach to ministry.

First Generation are growing churches, they are exciting churches. Every church was birthed in activity and at one time was full of expectancy. They were future focused, asking God to reveal His vision for them. It is this attitude and methodology that allowed these churches to experience growth numerically and spiritually.

These “Apostolic” churches do not consider “how did we do it back when” but focus on “how can we do it now!” This mindset gives energy to a body and vitality to see it accomplish the will of God.

Apostolic churches ask “what does God want us to do?” “How does God want us to accomplish His will?” This is all about the Holy Spirits will for your life!

The Denominational approach is “what did God do in the past?” “How can we preserve that memory?” This is an attempt to relive what the Holy Spirit did in someone else life.

Apostolic churches are concerned with reaching the lost! Because they are willing to say, “here am I Lord send me!” They are become burdened for lost souls just like the Lord was. By interacting with the Living God they are able to know how to reach their generation. Because of this mindset they see it happen.

Denominational churches are concerned with maintaining status quo. The focus becomes keeping the members they have. The focus becomes so centered on the past they loose touch with the current generation. This mindset has been the cause of more defeats then victories. Keeping people interested often resorts to the use of guilt rather then inspiration. Without a fresh move of God there is no hope only past formulas. Often entire generations are lost! In reality this disrespects the first generation they think they honor by letting the fire for lost souls go out!

When studying church growth and church health you will find varying opinions as to the ability of denominational mindset churches ability to see turn around. Some advocate forward thinking leaders and believers just to strike out and start anew! Regardless of the current perception of denominational churches and their ability to have a radical redirection. It may not matter for this Church.

First Christian Church Claims out on a Limb!

(Is this Heresy?)

News reports are now coming off the wire that Pastor Colton Clay of First Christian Church will be teaching “Jesus and Joy” the why and how Jesus People are happy people. For a long time this concept has been refuted by several in the Christian community. In-fact Professor Downer Ph. D. (Dry-bones University) has said “Sulking and bitterness happens to be one of the few Christian characters we have successfully integrated into our lives! Now they want to take that away from us, it's heresy!” Heresy or not Pastor Clay will be speaking about this rare phenomenon this Sunday May 24th and then again May 31st! If you have not been able to accept Joy and Happiness into your life, you will want to be there!

Get the word out! “We want to see you here, it is preparation for getting there!”

!Please send out this message to all you unhappy friends and family. Imagine how great your life could be if that person started Smiling!

Disclaimer: getting this message does not mean your friend thinks you are an unhappy person. They just want to see you in church!

Reading

I am currently reading several Great Books that I must recommend.

"7 Power Principles" C. Peter Wagner
I finished this book and loved it. I do not agree with everything in it but still I highly recommend it.
"The Way in is the Way On" John Wimber
I really love John Wimber and his approach to ministry.
"The Quest for the Radical Middle"
This is a history book about the Vineyard movement. If you do not like history books it may not be for you. I do so I have enjoyed this book.
"The Gospel of the Kingdom" George Eldon Ladd
Great book! Not as fluid in writing style as Wimber of Wagner but the content is solid.
"Power Healing" John Wimber
This is a must read.

I would love to hear some comments! What are you reading right now? Do you have a must read list that you would like to share?

Faith like Potatoes

I really love this movie! For everyone out there for the most part we speak of the same thing from different worlds and concepts. This movie really describes my view of the christian faith. Something very far removed from western thought "third world" in origin.
Here is a link http://www.globalcreative.co.za/FLP_index.htm
This is worth watching and make sure to see the documentary that comes with it. Comment on the site about the movie that would be great.
