Whose report will you believe?
We live in a society overflowing with news and information. Regardless of your world-view, with just a little effort you can find a media source that supports your position. Consumers are feeding on one negative story after another. Talk to someone with strong political opinions and you hear more about what is wrong with the “opposition” than what is right with their view. This creates for some people a state of constant confusion. It is enough to make a person depressed, worried, overwhelmed and confused! So who should we listen to? Who can we turn to for direction in uncertain times? Better said, “Whose report will you believe?”
Today as always you want to be on solid ground and not shifting sand. The answer is not Fox CNN or CNBC, it is unchanging Word of God. Isaiah asked the question “Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?” (Is. 53:1) And what is God's what is Gods report? “But he (being Jesus) was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.” (Is. 53:5,6) When we went astray from God, Jesus provided the ultimate bailout program! Why did he do this? Because He loves you, God of all creation loves you! And reports that in all things we can be more then conquers through Christ Jesus our Lord! “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifies. Who is he that condemn? It is Christ that died and has risen again, who is now at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” (Romans 8:31-37)
Afraid of what tomorrow will bring? Not at all, in all things the faithful in Christ will emerge triumphant in Christ. If the temporary reports have you afraid for the future it is time to hear the report of the Lord! As the word Gospel implies it is “good news” to those who receive it. Turn off the TV today and get somewhere that is giving the full report of Jesus!
